Congratulations, Carson and Kevin!

The Hazen Historical Museum Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all gifts are tax deductible.

Built in 1858, Mabry-Hazen House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Italianate-style home housed three generations of the same family, offering a rare view into 130 years of Knoxville's history. Furnished and decorated in the style of several eras, the museum showcases one of the largest original family collections in America with over 2,500 original artifacts on display.

Our mission is to interpret American history through the experiences of all the individuals who lived and worked on Mabry’s Hill and the caretakers of Bethel Cemetery from 1858-1989; educate the public about their lives and legacies; promote community engagement about the relevance of their past to our present; and preserve, restore, and manage the land, historic houses, and original artifacts for future generations.

We actively tell a full, inclusive history, acknowledging all the stories of Mabry-Hazen House’s inhabitants. In the past several years, our most meaningful addition to the interpretative fabric of the house museum is an expanded narrative on enslaved and domestic workers. We endeavor to challenge our audience’s preconceptions and engage them in the complexity of our shared history.
